TV's and Computers

Under the National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme, companies that make and/or import more than a threshold amount of televisions and computers into Australia are required to pay for the end of life recycling of these products. There are four organisations that recycle computers and accessories under the scheme:

  • TechCollect
  • Drop Zone
  • eCycle Solutions
  • Electronic Product Stewardship Australasia (EPSA)

Telecommunication Equipment

The number of electronic and electrical components consumed by the telecommunication industry is massive. From transmitters and receivers to power amplifiers, antennas, cables, DSL equipment, satellites, telephones, mobile devices, routers, modems and mainframes. Electronic waste is responsible for 70% of the toxic chemicals such as lead, cadmium and mercury found in landfill.

Printer Cartridges

For a print cartridge to fully decompose in a landfill site, it takes 1000 years, which gives you an extent of how damaging these cartridges can be to the environment. Another damaging effect of not properly disposing of ink cartridges is that the toner (carbon black) has been classified as a potential carcinogenic by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. When printer cartridges break apart in landfill, the volatile organic compounds the potential to contaminate groundwater and the environment

Drop off points include
