Presidents Report to the ACETA AGM  - 27th April 2021

Parallel to the industry experience, ACETA has been disrupted by the pandemic throughout 2020, with minimal idea of what to expect moving forward. Considerable energy was expended planning two conventions that were ultimately abandoned, other existing programs were disrupted and new initiatives were difficult to activate. However, ACETA has come through these trying times intact, with renewed resolve, and a determination to prevail in forging a new and sustainable industry landscape.

In conserving resources and maintaining stability in a self-managed environment, we need to acknowledge the outgoing ACETA board of management who remained steadfast and unified throughout 2020 and into 2021, performing their duties as best they could, given the prevailing environment. We also commend our determined ACETA manager Julie Hinton, who maintained member services and engagement often in trying circumstances, and always willing to listen to our constituents when necessary and even when not.

Moving forward, and at the first opportunity to work face to face in over twelve months, the ACETA board of management convened for a Strategic Planning Weekend in March 2021.  Aside from addressing ongoing programs and those under development, the board needed to develop priorities for immediate attention, and the following new and enhanced initiatives were those considered most achievable and pressing in the short term.

1. Complete the service provider accreditation program, that has been under-development for some time.

2.Update and expand product compliance guidance documentation to ultimately include; Audio, Lighting, Vision, Rigging, Temporary Structures,
    Power and IT.

3. Improve and expand communication to constituents and the industry at its broadest.

4 .Present a convention as soon as we are able in 2021 or 2022.

5. Resume and progress the ‘Archive of Excellence’ program.

6. Represent our constituent’s interests in respect of the recently issued Media Reform Green Paper – Impact on wireless technology. As a matter of
interest, ACETA lodged its initial formal comment on the Draft Five Year Spectrum Outlook 2021-2026 with the ACMA on the 27th April 2021. This
document will be sent to members and associate members via the ‘Members Circle’ publication shortly.

Worldwide, significant industry participants are challenged, attempting to placate share-holders and their market value, others are struggling to sustain themselves, and there are those availing themselves of the opportunities that arise from crisis. In this type of environment, behavioural standards slip and foolish decisions are made. We would do well to think of the other person in all our negotiations and decision making, and please, do not leave your humanity at the door.

All the best
Frank Hinton
