Presidents Report to the 2023 Annual General Meeting
Given its size, available resources and the generosity of committed contributors, ACETA continues to function well above any reasonable expectation metric. This also applies to specific events, particularly the industry convention, where a rewarding experience is always delivered, thanks to the skills and generosity of a motivated group of colleagues and contributors. To those who assist throughout the year and those who make the convention possible we extend our gratitude, you are the reason our association maintains high standards and a seamless interface to all stakeholders.
Driven by the membership at last year’s convention, this year saw the service provider sector transition from associate to general member, and now enjoy optimum benefits and opportunities, including the right to nominate for a position on the board of management. In December last year and due to his retirement, we farewelled ACETA board member, executive member and treasurer of the last decade Tony Hambling, and we acknowledge his dedication to a job well done, thank you Tony for your unwavering commitment and service to the industry. With Tony’s departure the board determined to second two new board members, Frank Andrewartha and Tiny Good accepted our invitation, Frank also assumed the role of treasurer, and both have been active from day one.
Once again, our association and convention manager Julie Hinton, has risen to all challenges thrown her way and contributed well beyond the call of duty. Given her inimitable manner founded on a service and nurture disposition, she has established a rich rapport with ACETA constituents and service providers, we are blessed and benefit significantly from her affable contribution.
Akin to 2022, this year’s convention is shaping up as a compact and dynamic event that will host many first-time delegates, new presenters, seminars, workshops and forums, whilst social aspects have also expanded to include world class live music entertainment at the Friday evening welcome cocktail party. Furthermore, this year we will produce three new episodes of the Archive of Excellence, all filmed in front of a live industry audience at the convention.
Looking to the future, ACETA has many initiatives on the table, testament to a more challenged industry, a changing landscape, priorities and influences. The industry more than ever needs an influential peak body and this will become even more evident in the passage of time. ACETA’s capability and potential is dictated by member numbers and the level of contribution. Few would deny, it is unreasonable and organisationally precarious to rely on a few to perform the heavy lifting, particularly in these more complex times. ACETA needs more participants to take ownership of the industry that sustains them, apathy and lack of participation is the only impediment to the industry association moving forward and increasing its impact.
