The ACETA End of Year Wrap - 2023
The end of a calendar year is a significant milestone, a reason to compare, reflect and begin again refreshed. It is also a time to celebrate and give thanks for what we have, and those we know and have known. During 2023 we couldn’t help but observe and experience the changing face of our world and industry, and we all have our views on that. However, one thing is certain there is no substitute for knowledge, commitment, community, care for others, and the aspiration to the highest possible standards, and these are the ACETA drivers. Much of 2023 was spent on developing and refining responses to the challenges we confront both now and in anticipation, and a number of these were flagged in last month’s ACETA news. Therefore, in our end of year wrap, and given its imminent launch we will overview ACETA accreditation and also announce a new initiative.
Accreditation is
The formal recognition, by an authoritative body, of an organization’s competence to perform to specified standards of quality. For most industry peak bodies, an accreditation program is their most valuable role, not only to benefit constituents, but to assist a) acquirers find suitable suppliers and providers, b) organizations seeking a compatible trading partner, c) individuals looking for the ideal employer, and d) any situation where a productive relationship is sought. For an industry, it is vital in elevating standards, and a productive tool in bringing an industry closer to all levels of government, their administrations, agencies and utilities.
Accreditation the ACETA Way
The ACETA optional accreditation program is progressive and finely tailored to meet the needs of all entertainment technology industry sectors moving forward. It is founded on industry best practice, intent and practiced in a self-regulating environment. The ACETA board of management is currently reviewing the introductory documentation along with the accreditation application process and management procedures. The program will attract a cost-recovery fee, however, as there are no auditing processes, this cost will be modest and is currently under evaluation. Early in the new year all members and associate members will be sent the aforementioned accreditation documentation for review. Once feedback has been considered and implemented where necessary, the program is currently scheduled for roll out in the first quarter of 2024. Application for accreditation will be available to all bona-fide ACETA members and associate members.
A Focus on Live Sound Engineering in Australia
Following representation from a number of veteran live sound engineers and consequent research amongst artists and artisans, the ACETA board of management has formed a sub-committee to consider what it can do to elevate the live sound engineering craft generally, and standards in particular. Members of the sub-committee are all eminent Australia live sound engineer veterans and include Jon Lemon, Steve Scanlon, Ross A’hern and Neil Campbell. There will be a focus on considering issues related to ‘best and safe practice’, respect for the craft, the role of a live sound engineer, and the most effective means of developing skills unencumbered by political correctness or commodified education streams. With regard to outcomes, the sub-committee may determine nothing can done, and this is okay, or may arrive at a definitive program(s) that can be implemented and driven by, but subject to ACETA’s resources and capability at any given time. This initiative has been undertaken as part of ACETA’s skills shortage and industry education portfolio.
That’s it from ACETA for the time being and we wish you a safe, happy and peaceful festive season, and we will be in touch in the new year,
Here’s to you and yours
