Presidents Report to the ACETA AGM - 3rd May 2017
When we reflect on the ACETA year just past, there are many highlights we could espouse but none more so than the considered and necessary organisational re-structure, including a new back office approach and a re-arrangement of roles and responsibilities. These changes have been successful in every aspect, not only in streamlining the organisation, but also in optimising its capability to address the challenges confronting the industry and deliver improved standards and opportunities. Therefore, this report will address the new ACETA landscape and focus on association administration and governance, with the on-going activities addressed a little later in the presentation of the ACETA Business Plan moving forward.
In April last year, ACETA engaged Stockdale ACS to handle the administration of our association, a role they were totally familiar with and one that has provided ACETA with an experienced and highly skilled back office. Stockdale ACS assigned the ACETA lead administrator role to Emily Dittman, who has excelled in understanding and dealing with the association and its day to day activities. All administrative needs are operating smoothly including financial management, book-keeping, communication, planning, information technology application, intellectual property development and program management. Therefore, ACETA is delighted to advise the continuation of our agreement with Stockdale ACS for another year and hopefully well beyond. In addition, Stockdale ACS will look after the development and management of the upcoming ACETA Convention, a role they are well versed in.
A year ago, the ACETA board determined not to appoint an Executive Officer, the normal leadership role and practise for an industry association. It was agreed that the ACETA Executive, consisting of the president, secretary and treasurer, would assume this role in leading the association. In their wisdom, this board decision has proven successful on many counts, including the conservation of finances and elevation of association potential. It has been agreed that this arrangement will continue for the ensuing year, subject to the determination of the incoming board. In concert with our administration this short-term leadership model provides a simple and streamlined management structure, one that is as close as possible to the heart and mind of our constituents and the industry at its broadest.
The consequence of the organisational re-structure is evident on a number of counts, and has had a positive impact on finances due to significant cost saving and membership stability. Cash reserves have grown to a satisfactory level and it is planned to perpetuate this upward trend in the coming year, particularly in the realisation of membership growth. Due the fact there is no down side only benefits in participation, numerous organisations have expressed membership intent, in doing so membership growth will increase the capability and influence of ACETA even further. However, it is difficult getting many organisations over the line, the primary obstacle being a lack of understanding of what ACETA actually offers and the benefit it will bring participants, despite the fact we have tried numerous traditional and contemporary communication mediums. This is an ongoing challenge and one we will endeavour to resolve as a matter of priority.
By virtue of the programs scheduled for implementation in the coming year, we are set for a landmark period which will only be realised in a team effort and a sharing of the workload. In summary, I commend to you the entire team at Stockdale ACS and the outgoing ACETA board of management who have served you well, and welcome the new board in anticipation of a productive year ahead.
