Manufacturers forum

There are a large number of manufacturers in the commercial and entertainment technology sector in Australia.

The Manufacturers Forum supports manufacturer members with a resource centre that provides information based around the stages of product development as follows:

There are a number of varying processes that individuals and organisations go through in terms of bringing new initiatives to the market place. Some of these processes are rather corporatised, others novel and left of centre.  So it often comes down to what best suits the circumstance and participants. Some feel there are two distinct streams:  technical (engineering/art) and commercial (business).  Melding them together in a normally accepted process is as follows:

  1. The birth of an idea. This can happen organically or in a planned manner.
  2. Test the idea. The plan here is to identify relevance and potential and the capability of resourcing it.
  3. Develop and test. The engineering and commercial aspects would often proceed together.
  4. Business analysis. This includes costing, production anticipated sales volume and issues relating to profitability
  5. Product and market testing. This includes beta testing of product along with market place feedback in its various forms.
  6. Implement technical and production programs. This includes infrastructure, resourcing and quality control programming
  7. Develop and implement marketing programs. This includes product launch, advertising, merchandising concepts and distribution networks.
  8. Good luck

The Forum provides key contacts and links to government grants, export assistance, commercialisation, case studies and more.
