Remaining Progressive and Visionary – July 2022

Dear Colleagues,

The 2022 ACETA convention produced many progressive and visionary ideas. In distilling and prioritising common themes, we present the first initiative, which is more an association membership restructure to ensure the needs of all sectors are met in a constantly changing landscape, and to further strengthen your peak body organisationally.

Like most industry associations, ACETA offers general and associate membership to qualifying organizations. Currently manufacturers and manufacturers’ representatives qualify as member whilst service and support providers qualify as associate member. Sponsored by attending associate members at the convention, a membership qualification change was proposed that achieved popular consensus.

In reference to the following table; industry categories 1-8 currently qualify for membership and categories 9-16 qualify for associate membership. Moving forward, and reflected in the table, we propose categories 9-12 no longer qualify for associate membership but qualify for general membership, whilst categories 13-16 remain as qualifying for associate membership, and the rationale:

The needs of current category 9-12 associate members, whilst not identical are nonetheless similar in magnitude to that of current members and require association parity. Therefore, the sector needs appropriate association resourcing and influence including the board of management and executive positions available to general members. In this regard ACETA would benefit by the expanded talent pool able to nominate for board of management, executive and office bearer positions.
