You should prioritise accommodation, the Gateway Hotel is almost booked out, and may be by the time you read this. The Hermitage Motel, which still has availability, is also a preferred and recommended property and is situated just behind the Gateway. For your convenience, an arrangement has been made that any bar/breakfast expenses incurred at the Gateway can be charged back to the Hermitage & included on your bill upon check out. In addition, there at least 4 motels within a few minutes’ walk from the Gateway Hotel the venue for the convention. Visit our website for a list of accommodation options. However, if you leave it too late you may be compromised with accommodation. We are aware that many members are bringing teams of employees and it may be a preferable and cost-effective option to rent a multi bedroom house, the details of which are available through the Wangaratta Visitor Information Centre. This form of accommodation is probably an excellent team-building solution and of course there is always Air B&B. As a footnote, some members are taking the opportunity to convene their corporate conference immediately following the convention, and as a resource some convention seminars will provide notes and reports that can be used as a resource at these private meetings.
All delegates, presenters and partners should arrive for the important 4.00pm plenary on Friday the 4th May followed by the Civic Reception at 6.00pm, where you will enjoy the hospitality of the City of Wangaratta. Convention formalities will conclude at 2.30pm Sunday the 6th of May, however we are aware many will stay an extra day or two with partners to explore the abundant resources of the region. View an outline of the timetable here.
For those inclined don’t forget and don’t be shy, the golf day is for anybody who can hold a stick, all delegates, presenters and partners are welcome. This is planned as a fun day, non-competitive but rumour has it, that a perpetual trophy of some description will be presented at the inaugural gala dinner dance.
And finally, the answers to common questions. The early May weather in Wangaratta is a typically moderate north east Victorian Autumn, low rainfall and sunny days but cool in the evening, ideal and easy visitor conditions. Now to dress code questions, the organisers of the inaugural gala dinner dance are suggesting a dress to impress turnout for this classy fun event. For the convention itself, casual and comfortable should be the order of the day. Many are attending with partners which is pleasing and encouraged, all other questions will be answered at the introductory plenary on Friday the 4th May, and to reinforce all delegates, presenters and partners should attend this initial gathering and the following civic reception.
Aside from participation at trade shows, it is clear that this is a totally new experience for many, and therefore the suggested approach is to arrive open minded, prepared to interact and with your own personal and corporate outcome plan. All that remains to be said is we look forward to mixing with you at the first entertainment technology industry convention in Australia.
All the best
