ACETA Management Update – July 2026
At the mid-year board of management meeting last week (Friday 24th July 2026), it was unanimously agreed that ACETA needs to increase membership, and by a significant margin. Amongst a number of realities, the meeting realised that the entertainment technology sector needs its peak body more than ever, such is the influence of a deeply polarised and conflicted world and the consequences it delivers. An industry peak body not only provides demonstrable benefits to its constituents, but is the source of industry cohesion. Therefore, the board felt it was incumbent on all participants to not only ensure its sustainability, but also expand resourcing, to confront the increasing challenges impacting all those trading in the sector. The board of management is determined to widen programs and services to the benefit of constituents; however, this requires additional time, funding, and of course, goodwill. Increased membership will deliver these aspirations.
Since its formation some 16 years ago, ACETA has addressed critical threats to the industry, that could only effectively be addressed by the recognised peak body, these include, but are not limited to the digital dividend, the once cluttered trade event calendar, the knock off issue, product and safety compliance, and parallel importing to name but a few that come to mind. In the meantime, ACETA continues to deliver specific member benefits, the ten most recognised include:
1. Community mentoring and fostering a sense of belonging and mutual support among members
2. Insurance and Assurance protection from obstacles and promotion of beneficial reforms
3. Increased Partnership Opportunity enhanced credibility and partnership opportunity through industry recognition
4. Increased Commercial Advantage by demonstrable commitment to compliant and fair-trading
5. Product Compliance Guidance by access to guidelines
6. Skills Shortage and Education access to research and development initiatives
7. Individual/Corporate Development through access to complimentary member only program’s
8. Networking pathway to commercial, social and partnership opportunities
9. Participation in Survey’s defining and developing productive industry landscapes
10. Member Accreditation Program recognition of competence and commitment to compliance and industry standards
Is being unified, cohesive and working for the common good out of fashion? Are we "too busy" to think of anything but next week's sales? Anybody who has studied strategic planning knows this is not a road to growth and well-being, especially in an industry with a rapidly advancing technical landscape.
