An Enhanced Administration Structure
Protecting Our Future
By virtue of its voluntary status, the ACETA board of management spends limited face to face developmental time together. By design out of necessity, board meetings are intense two-hour decision-making forums, that receive reports, introduce initiatives, and direct the ongoing work of sub-committees and delegated individuals. Given globalisation and other pressing industry sustainability challenges, the purpose, potential and demands on our peak body are intensifying, and require additional and considered management attention. Responses to these realities are far more viable, now that your association is completely administered from within, giving additional meaning to ‘by the industry, for the industry’.
Over a weekend in July, the ACETA board of management met for a defining two-day Strategic Planning Weekend (SPW), a new but valuable experience and a vital annual event on the industry calendar. The weekend provided an opportunity for the new board of management and administration to reflect, debate, define and prioritize a program for the year ahead. With the benefit of time, a consensus was achieved across the entire agenda of issues. Strengths and weaknesses were identified, a schedule of priorities assembled, budgets approved, and a unified commitment established within the new board.
The Strategic Planning Weekend (SPW) influence will play out over time; however, it does logically set in motion the optimum productivity cycle for the association, by facilitating the action springboard event for a new (board of management) year in July. This cycle is neatly completed by the industry convention in May the following year, where industry consensus is achieved and consequent directions are realised. In between these two pivotal events we have (real time) board meetings, (remote) sub-committee meetings, and monthly (real time) executive meetings that take care of day to day operational issues.
Of many initiatives debated and agreed at the SPW, one was the desirability of establishing a theme for the next (third) industry convention. Driven by current trends and experiences along with common member sentiment we established Protecting Our Future as the convention theme in 2020. The program will focus on delivering resources for our people, our member companies and our industry, to assist in confronting current and pending challenges in a variety of personal, corporate and industry developmental seminars and workshops. Just one of many examples, and a business reality impacting all of us, is the changing face of insurance as a result of a) non-compliant product and practises in a number of industries, and b) the many faces of cyber-crime, where every one of us are vulnerable to destructive outcomes. ACETA will include an insurance seminar, to expertly address these issues, including possible demonstration by an experienced hacker to establish a reality understanding.
One of the budgets considered and approved at the SPW related to the convention, a document which reflected substantial participation increases in both delegate registrations and all social/networking event bookings. Assembling a compelling seminar/workshop that conforms with the theme is nearing completion, and dates have been confirmed that reflect optimum regional hospitality availability to satisfy the emerging needs of our industry. We have a significant allocation of rooms at convention venue the Gateway Hotel, which are already being reserved in greater numbers than previously experienced.
To all our members, be assured you are not alone, and to any party seeking membership, new applications, will be accepted for approval at the upcoming board meeting on the 27th August 2019, so send your application now to email@example.com.
All the best
