An ACETA Announcement - August 2020
Dear Colleagues,
The ACETA Convention
Reluctantly, the ACETA board of management has cancelled the 2020 industry convention, an unavoidable decision and one you will understand. The next convention will be scheduled as early as possible in 2021, and at a time when participants can experience the program, networking and social opportunity in the most conducive environment. This pause will enable all parties the time and space to rationalize their personal and corporate realities as the new normal evolves. At this point our peak body will be needed to support recovery, and the convention will be a significant driver, facilitating solutions, networks and developmental opportunity that will underpin future sustainability and growth. In addition, the extraordinary free delegate fee announced for the 2020 event will be rolled over to the 2021 convention for qualifying members. The program established for the 2020 convention was broadly accepted and acclaimed, due its balance, diversity, but most importantly, it perfectly addressed its theme, ‘protecting our future’, and quite obviously this theme takes on a new meaning given the challenges we now confront. Therefore, we intend to present this program unchanged in 2021.
On A Personal Note
I have recently taken the opportunity to chat with numerous industry leaders to gain an appreciation of how it is for them, their companies, and the impact on industry, information that will help steer ACETA moving forward in service to its constituents. Without going into detail, there is significant anxiety resident in our industry. However, it needs to be reported, and without exception, everyone I spoke with was more concerned for the well-being of their staff than their immediate circumstances. And no one was preparing to dance on the grave of a struggling competitor. It would be naïve to think every industry participant shares this disposition, however, those that don’t are on the margins. Therefore, there is a lot to appreciate and respect in this industry, and our people at all levels are indeed precious.
Care for Yourself Please!
What I take from my recent interactions, and what most realise, as an industry we rarely talk about our personal concerns and struggles unless prompted, even then, we are reluctant to express ourselves. This has the dam wall effect, when it gets too full and contained, it eventually has to burst and the outcome is not pretty. To all industry participants, when you are under siege and not coping, would you please, pick up the phone and share with someone. What you talk about is your call, but be assured, ‘verbalizing relieves the pressure’ you will feel much better, see things more objectively, and you may curtail mental and/or physical illness. So, talk, there are many things that bind us, and your feelings are experienced by all of us at some point in time, particularly in the current environment. If you need someone to talk with I am sure my ACETA board colleagues, who can be found at www.aceta.org.au, are happy to lend an ear, and I certainly am at any time, don’t hesitate.
Let’s End on an Uplifting Note
We have two new member benefits and an industry report to deliver exclusively to the bona fide membership, which every member will receive in the exclusive ACETA Members Circle publication, due next week, which will provide an overview and benefit access information. To summarize:
We recently formed a member benefit partnership agreement with Best Wines Great Western who have just been named the Best Value Winery of the Year at the 2021 Halliday Wine Companion Awards. Hear what James Halliday had to say https://www.winecompanion.com.au/resources/awards/2021-winners/best-value-winery-of-the-year. This ACETA partnership with one of Australia’s leading wineries, will deliver a diverse range of top-quality wine at much lower than normal prices and delivered free.
For small business and startups, it can be costly and a challenge to create an effective web presence. ACETA has reached an agreement with a Australian web designer/manager experienced working in our industry.
A report on the current state of our industry will be included in the upcoming edition of the ACETA Members Circle.
Stay safe, keep well and remember you are not alone
All the best
