AES Audio History

The AES Melbourne document and celebrate the history of the professional audio industry in Australia on their website through the achievements of its people.

The Legends of Audio page is meant to celebrate the achievements of the true legends, and help us all know them a little better. These are people whose names are synonymous with their particular field of audio engineering.

In Their Own Words – Over the years the AES Melbourne Section has hosted presentations by leading audio practitioners recounting their careers and experiences. The meeting reports and videos of these presentations are valuable resources covering aspects of the history of the local professional audio industry. These are collected on this page for easy discovery.

Then there are the Quiet Achievers – throughout the history of audio there have been many talented and skilled people working quietly to advance the art and science of audio engineering.

Away from the spotlight, these people have made significant contributions to the industry by quietly applying their skills and knowledge day after day
Breakthrough Developments – every so often projects come along that change the way we view audio in our world. The industry has seen many world-leading audio developments come out of Australia – often not attributable to a single individual but to a team of forward-thinkers.

Finally, there is the History of the Section. The Melbourne Section of the Audio Engineering Society has a proud history of service to the Professional Audio Industry in Melbourne, Victoria, and the wider audio industry. We celebrated our 50th Anniversary in December 2024, and this history has been complied as part of those celebrations.

Thanks to the AES Melbourne Section for allowing us to share their history and celebrations.
